about

What started out as a solo project of producer Sölvi Blöndal, under the name Halleluwah whilst Sölvi was living in Stockholm, has now formed into a new band based in Reykjavik. It's consist of producer Sölvi Blöndal and singer & visual artist Raketa. Coming from very different backgrounds, Sölvi is the brain child of Icelandic hiphop band Quarashi and Raketa is a trained jazz vocalist, having dipped her toes in the Icelandic music scene performing with indie & electro bands such as Sykur & Útidúr. The two seem to be an unlikely pair but they do have a few thing in common One is that they are both natural blondes and the other is they have a love for old 60‘s girl pop groups & singers, such as Shangri-Las & Francis Gall. Taking it from they make music that mixes up these elements; sweet soothing retro vocals that sound like they made your grandparents twist and shout back in the day, with hiphop and dark electro beats.

The official release was the song 'Blue Velvet' from Halleluwah in early summer 2013 and gained radio success and media attention, a slight preview of whats to come. The band has been owning their craft this summer, plotting their arrival on to the scene for the coming fall, with the second single to be released along with an EP and a line of live performances combining visuals, double drum kits and with a tad nostalgic enchantment.
